The generous donation from Taskers this year will support Derbyshire to provide coaching to 30 girl golfers, while also helping to fund our fun competition structure which caters for all ages and abilities.
This will include the Derbyshire Golf Futures Tour which in 2016 saw 21 girls and 75 boys, under the age of 14, experience competitive golf at 10 different courses throughout the summer.
Last year we successfully integrated both boys and girls into a new performance coaching structure which has contributed to both individual and team triumphs for the girls, with the Handicap team coming second in the Midlands league. From winter 2016 we will be expanding on this structure with girls taking part at all levels of the pathway and being given a choice of north or south venues. Team bonding and fun get-togethers also make up the girl’s calendar and this year we propose to run more activities to ensure the girls create strong friendships in golf, which will ultimately help keep them in the game.
Course management and psychology training is integrated into the coaching pathway with more emphasis on this at the higher performance levels. The Derbyshire Junior Steering Group work very closely with the county coaches to ensure that all girls who show a keen interest are given the best opportunities possible.
