Well 6 games (5 matches) later Branston had made the final for the first time. We had tremendous fun in getting to this point making new friends, playing different courses and getting to know the fears and tribulations of our own team never mind the opposition as we progressed.
Having had a practise round earlier in the week we were fully prepared for the challenge armed with our notes and our trusty caddies by our sides everyone was desperately trying to conquer the nerves as the first tee time fast approached. I don’t know if knowing some of the opposition team helped or hindered but getting the first tee shot away was a relief and it was game on.
The weather was kind to us, the course in great condition and the only thing we had to deal with was the unexpected bellows and sudden appearances of the stags as they rounded up their harems. The organisers had briefed us well but it was still a bit of a shock as they slowly advancing as you took your shot. The final was played in fantastic spirit with the majority of the games being settled in a last few holes and one going down the 19th.
A huge thank you to Whittington for making the final such an enjoyable experience. Congratulations to the organisers and Wollaton for allowing us to use their lovely course.
Taskers is a fantastic competition that has the added value of supporting junior development. Getting to and winning the final was the icing on the cake for Branston but no matter how far you get it is worth the effort of entering a team. We look forward to doing it all again next year and hopefully having the opportunity to defend our title.
