Extensions to the last day of play are only granted in very specific circumstances. It is important to understand that extensions are not available simply because players are unavailable or a team is struggling to agree a date they exist solely as a provision for extreme and prolonged weather conditions.
When can an extension be granted? #
A short extension of up to 3 days may be granted where both courses have been closed for over 5 consecutive days due to extreme weather, the match has been arranged and postponed multiple times, and the application is made at least 3 days before the last day of play. All criteria must be met, not just some of them.
There is a full list of criteria and an application form here: Extend our last day of play due to extreme weather
What about player availability or date disputes? #
There is no provision for extensions on the grounds of player unavailability or difficulty agreeing dates. If you are struggling to agree a date, please see Challenges arranging my match.
Our advice is to plan ahead think about the “what ifs” when agreeing your match date, and avoid committing to a date that is very close to the last day of play with no room to rearrange. See Considerations for proposing and accepting match dates.
