# Does the home team have to provide a post-match meal

It is usual, but not compulsory, for the home team to arrange a meal after the match, shared at the expense of both teams (Rule 3c). This is a long-standing tradition in the competition and a valued part of the day most clubs provide something, whether a full meal or lighter refreshments.

**"Shared expense"** means both teams typically contribute to the cost of the meal, either by paying individually or by the away team making a contribution. It is worth the two captains agreeing this arrangement in advance of match day.

**Appropriate attire** it is expected that players bring smart casual or club attire for the post-match meal. What is considered appropriate will vary by club, but golf attire alone (e.g. waterproofs or caps) is generally not suitable for the clubhouse dining area. If in doubt, ask the home captain in advance.

If the home club is not providing a meal, it is courteous to let the away team know before match day so they can make their own arrangements.
