Luffenham Heath and Kibworth have met each other in the first round of the Ian Burtoft Trophy three times on the run, so this is becoming something of a fixture. Luffenham Heath greeted us warmly with coffee and pastries. This was fuel to send us out on a sunny but windy day.
Two matches finished fairly early on, two made it all the way to the 18th, while the rest finished somewhere in between. Reports in the clubhouse afterwards (over tea and cake) told of matches that had gone up, then down, then back again, holes that had been won with glorious skill and others lost with unintended errors.
All were played in great spirit and the team photos showed the purple-clad Kibworth team (camouflaged in front of banks of purple heather) smiling a little more broadly than the ladies of Luffenham in their smart navy blue. Kibworth won this leg 6-1 and look forward to welcoming Luffenham Heath when they come to us in two weeks’ time seeking vengeance
