Top tips for arranging your match

We understand that arranging matches with your opponents can sometimes be complex with lots to consider.

Here are some top tips to make it easier for you and your team to enjoy the game and competition.

Key Rules:

  1. The home club is responsible for proposing a at least 3match dates.
  2. At least three dates must be offered, including one weekend date.

While the home team has these responsibilities, the away team can also initiate contact with a friendly hello!

Contacting Teams: Team contact details are available to all captains on the ‘My Matches’ page. Clicking on a team name will show the captain’s email and phone number. If you have trouble reaching them, contact us for assistance. We also have club contacts and secretaries’ details.

Communication Tips: Email is useful for tracking decisions and agreements. After a call, follow up with an email to confirm details. This helps avoid mistakes like showing up on the wrong day.

Considerations When Arranging Dates:

  • Weather: Is there enough time to reschedule if needed?
  • Sudden Death/Playoff: Will there be enough daylight to finish the match?
  • Player Availability: Do you have reserves if some players can’t make it?

The committee expects team captains to handle these responsibilities under rule 3.

Extensions: Extensions to the last day of play are only granted for matches postponed due to bad weather and must meet specific criteria. Lack of players is not a valid reason for an extension. Plan ahead and consider potential issues when arranging dates. Read More

Match Day: Ensure you have a record of all players, handicaps, and match results. Use the match scorecard to log these details. The match scorecard helps in accurately recording the match outcome, which is essential for submitting the results online. You can download and print our match scorecards or log in on your smartphone to submit your result immediately after the match.

Results must be submitted online within 24 hours of playing your match. Both team captains are responsible for ensuring a result is submitted.

Player Eligibility: In later rounds, ensure your players meet eligibility criteria. A player can only represent one active team and must meet age and handicap requirements.

General Advice: Most team captains arrange matches smoothly, but if issues arise, discuss them with the opposing captain. The rules offer options like using the away course if the home course is unavailable. Check the rules and our Help pages for guidance.

These tips are not mandates by the committee but are provided to help your matches run smoothly and ensure everyone enjoys the competition.
