This turned out to be the closest match to yours in sport we have played in this comp since we started taking part. Two games went to extra holes to sort out the eventual winners. Andy Tollan won his match with a birdie 3 on the first playoff hole.

Tony Wood and Carl Braines halved the first playoff hole; they decided to call it a half when the second match had finished and the match won by Ashby. Four of the games went to the 17th green, two won by Ashby and two won by Kedleston.

All the players enjoyed the day, followed by a well-earned pint.

Thanks to all the Kedleston team, and my team, for reporting what a great bunch of players and very sporting. Hope all the team arrived home safely.

Thanks also to the stand-in captain, John Rickard.

Well played all Ashby players, it’s always a pleasure, and to captain a great group, top all who made themselves available. Will let you all know when and who we play in the semi-final. Privileged captain, great after trying for the last ten years.

Keep safe a big thank you to all our players and to all that didn’t make the team this time.

Yours ever grateful and privileged captain, yours in sport, Ian
