The Lincolnshire Women’s Golf Association is proud to share how the Taskers Trophy funding will help us continue building a strong future for junior golf in our county.
Why This Matters
We have always had a well-supported junior county section, and last year we completed the first stage of a three-year development plan. This plan is designed to do more than introduce girls to golf. But we also want these girls to stay in the game for life, to be those rare things, twenty, thirty, forty year olds who are active in club golf, the committee members and junior organisers of tomorrow. This begins with friendships that develop through the squads that we run, and confidence that is built through experiencing new challenges.
Golf is more than a sport; it’s a community, and we are committed to making that community stronger.
How We’ll Use the Funding
The Taskers Trophy contribution will support our winter coaching programme, which is central to our development pathway. This year, 58 juniors have registered, and they are split into three squads:
- Futures Squad – introducing new players to the game
- Development Squad – building skills and confidence
- Performance Squad – focused on advanced topics like strength and conditioning, psychology, short game, and putting
To make participation easier, the futures and development squads are divided into north, mid, and south regions, reducing travel for families. Each girl will receive six 90-minute sessions, and the performance squad will benefit from specialist coaching.
Our Goals and Measures of Success
Last year, the 51 girls in our programme reduced their handicaps by an average of seven shots. We also celebrated one player joining a national regional squad and two 16-year-olds representing Lincolnshire in the national finals.
This year, we have set up 18 coaching sessions for each squad, and attendance will be closely monitored. Our aim is clear: to keep improving, keep growing, and keep inspiring.
Our Three-Year Plan
This funding supports our long-term vision for junior golf in Lincolnshire:
Year 1 – 2024 to 2025
- Establish a strong foundation for the programme by recruiting and retaining a group of young female golfers.
- Implement a comprehensive coaching curriculum that addresses all aspects of player development.
- Create a supportive and inclusive environment for players and their families that offers a clear pathway from grassroots to elite and national level.
- Organise regular training sessions and competitions to provide opportunities for development and competition.
- Strengthen partnerships and relationships with local golf clubs, PGA coaches, and parents to help increase the number of girls participating through enhanced communication, promotion, and engagement.
Year 2 – 2025 to 2026
- Increase the number of players participating in the programme and expand the range of activities offered.
- Develop a pathway for talented players to progress to higher levels of competition.
- Implement a player performance assessment system to monitor progress and identify areas for improvement.
- Establish a sustainable funding model to support the long-term growth of the programme.
Year 3 – 2026 to 2027
- Develop a team of competitive junior golfers who can represent Lincolnshire at regional and national level.
- Develop a mentorship programme to connect young players with successful female golfers and coaches.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the programme and make necessary adjustments.
Working Together
Alongside Taskers Trophy, we have applied for an England Golf grant to help cover the £2,700 cost of our winter programme. Coaching remains our biggest expense, but it is also our most important investment.
Lincolnshire has a proud history of supporting juniors, and with your help, we will continue to grow that legacy.
